Last night I bought my daughter a fish. She had been asking for one for several days. She named him Milo. This morning Milo woke up dead. Well, technically he’s still breathing, but he’s on his side on the bottom of the bowl…and he’s not moving. I know he doesn’t have much time left. I’m just happy for the eight to ten hours of joy and happiness he provided for my family.
Milo’s short life reminds me of a Bible verse that says:
Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”
(Ecclesiastes 12:1 NLT)
I think one thing we can all learn from Milo is that life is short. In fact, when compared to eternity, our years on earth are much shorter than Milo’s one-night stay in my home. Every day the window of opportunity closes a bit more…the opportunity to use our lives to honor God and demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to a broken world. Today, as you get excited about all the things you’re going to do this weekend, think about Milo. Remember that life is short, so make each day count. Remember your Creator and honor him in your youth.
